Matthew Thomas Compton is the Reservation Program Director year round, and the Pamlico Sea Base Director in the summer. He is from the town of Tappahannock in Virginia's Tidewater. Growing up there he learned to appreciate all things historical and nautical. Matt was a member of Troop 304, spending many weekends camping, canoeing, and sailing the tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay. Matt is an Eagle Scout, earning his rank with Troop 111 in Gloucester Courthouse. Upon graduation Matt attended Virginia Tech, where he sailed competitively on the Varsity Sailing Team. Matt is a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College earning a degree in History and Political Science. He is also a Brother of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. Prior to working at the East Carolina Scout Reservation, he taught classes at Mitchell Community College and was the Sailing Camp Director for the Peninsula Yacht Club on Lake Norman. Matt is married to Lisa, and they live in Greenville with their dog Boatswain.
Andrew Watkins is the Pamlico Sea Base Program Director. Hailing from Henderson, North Carolina, Drew grew up hiking in the woods, as well as pulling in fishing nets on the Bogue and Core Sounds. Drew majored in Anthropology and English at East Carolina University and now plans on continuing his education with a degree in Outdoor Education. Since high school, Drew has been involved with “Experiential Education” working with children, adults, and people with special needs. Drew has paddled almost 5,000 miles and climbed throughout the East Coast as well as in the Andes around ancient ruins.
From Charleston West Virginia. His passions include snow skiing, duck hunting, fishing, biking, boating, white water rafting, and just about everything outdoors. He is an Eagle Scout with tons of outdoor experiences through Scouts. Rob is going to be a senior at Hampden-Sydney College.

Lt Col Harry E. Sanders Jr., USAF, Ret., serves as the Chairman of the Pamlico Sea Base Committee. Following his career in the US Air Force, Col Sanders served 20 years in the private sector as a Senior Vice President and Executive Director with American Systems, an engineering services corporation located in Chantilly, VA. He is a life-long Wood Badge trained 50–year Scouter; a recipient of the Silver Beaver and Daniel Carter Beard Masonic Scouter Awards; has served on the staff of three National Jamborees, and currently serves as the District Chairman of the Blackbeard District of the East Carolina Council. He also serves as a US Air Force Academy Liaison Officer for high schools in northeastern North Carolina and is active as a Past National President with the National Sojourners, a military Masonic organization focused on Americanism and patriotism. Col Sanders holds a BS in Electrical Engineering and a MA in Management & Supervision.
Pete Wagner, DO, FACC, FACOI, NAUI Instructor Trainer, SSI Instructor
Dr. Wagner is a board certified cardiologist and a diver since 1977. His interests are dive medicine and underwater photography. He has extensive experience in pre-hospital emergency care having spent nearly 20 years in the rescue service and has instructed emergency medical technicians, paramedics and physicians. Active with Scouting since 1968, he is an Eagle Scout, son of an Eagle and father of three Eagles. He is a Silver Beaver recipient is Woodbadge trained and has served the council in several program related roles.
